If you’re in need of Medicare coverage, you may have heard that Humana Medicare Advantage plans are better than traditional Medicare plans. They can be, but it depends on your individual situation and needs, so check out these five reasons to consider Humana Medicare Advantage plans if you’re shopping around for Medicare coverage.
- Dental Coverage
- Vision Coverage
- Drug Coverage
- Premium Cost Comparison
1) Dental Coverage
Dental coverage is available in all Humana Medicare Advantage plans. There’s no charge for preventative care and copays may be lower than you think. For example, with a $0 copayment, you can get one cleaning per year. Plus, dental coverage is included as part of your hospital inpatient coverage, and outpatient surgery costs aren’t counted towards your annual out-of-pocket max (so long as it’s performed by a dentist). Bottom line: When it comes to preserving your teeth and gums, affordable dental care is just a phone call away. And don’t forget that many employers offer discounts on dental plans – keep an eye out for them!
2) Vision Coverage
If you’re enrolled in a Humana Medicare Advantage plan, you may be able to get vision coverage for exams, corrective lenses, and medical treatment. Dental Coverage: If you’re enrolled in a Humana Medicare Advantage plan, you may be able to get dental coverage for your routine checkups and cleanings as well as fillings and other necessary dental work. You can also get dentures and bridges. Skilled Nursing Care: If your doctor orders that you need skilled nursing care, a managed care company can provide services under certain circumstances. Hospital & Doctor Visits: Hospital stays and doctors’ visits will cost you nothing if they are covered by your plan, but depending on what kind of health plan is right for you, not all visits will be covered 100 percent.
3) Drug Coverage
With most traditional Medicare plans, you’re responsible for a monthly premium, as well as all of your prescription drug costs. With a Humana Medicare Advantage plan, you pay an additional premium for your prescription drugs, but these plans will have separate drug formularies that set rules about which drugs are covered and at what cost. For instance, some may offer brand-name medications at no cost while others will only cover generic medications. You also might need to pay a deductible before receiving coverage. With Humana’s Prescription Drug Discount Card, you can take up to 20% off most prescriptions! The card covers thousands of brand-name and generic drugs and it is accepted at over 68 million pharmacies nationwide!
If you are enrolled in Original Medicare, your monthly premium is $134, as of 2018. If you’re enrolled in a HumanaMedicare Advantage plan, you may also have to pay copays for your health care services and prescription drugs. However, if you meet certain income requirements, such as having limited assets or being on Medicaid, then there will be no premiums for you.
5) Premium Cost Comparison
When you’re choosing between traditional Medicare or a Medicare Advantage plan, it’s important to know that out-of-pocket costs can vary. On average, traditional Medicare recipients pay $1,230 per year in premiums while MA recipients pay an average of $33 more. Depending on your needs and financial situation, however, you might want to factor in other elements like co-pays and deductibles when making your decision.
